Kårarp Timber Simplifies Daily Operations with Prosmart

At Kårarp Timber, raw material is planed to finished dimensions. Here, timber pieces up to six meters long pass through the planer in a steady flow. The Halmstad-based planing mill has a small number of customers—with large volumes.

When an older system was being phased out, it became clear that they needed to find a new way to manage their production.

After a careful transition and parallel operation of the old and new systems, the choice fell on Prosmart. Today, the system is used throughout the entire operation—from order to dispatch.

Phased Transition—Focused on Operations

Implementing a new business system in a production-oriented operation requires patience and planning. At Kårarp Timber, they took it step by step. The goal was clear: production should flow smoothly without those working there getting bogged down in administration.

“For us, it’s important that those in production should produce—not administrate,” says Lotta Karlsson, who works with finance and administration at the company.

“Together with Prosmart, we have found a way of working where it’s smooth for production to work in the system.”

The choice of Prosmart for Kårarp Timber was largely because they had what the company needed: experience from sawmills and understanding of their workflows. During implementation, they received excellent support from both consultants and support staff, which enabled the system to be gradually adapted to their needs.

Stable System—Adapted for Daily Operations

Kårarp Timber works with standing production orders and recurring runs. By using recurring production orders in Prosmart, they have been able to create a workflow where production flows smoothly, even when administrative staff are not available.

“It means we’re not so dependent on a specific person being on site,” explains Lotta. “And that’s important in a small operation like ours.”

Working with an item structure that requires division into lengths was a new habit, but it now works well thanks to good searchability and clear routines. Inventory management has also become easier. In Prosmart, they can export their lists directly to Excel, making it easier to send daily reports to suppliers.

Adapted for the Future

Kårarp Timber went fully live with Prosmart in October 2024, after a longer period during which the older system ran in parallel. Today, they see that they achieve the same results as before with a system that feels stable and where support is always close at hand.

“If I were to give advice to others who are changing systems, it would be to know what you want and stand firm on it,” says Lotta. “A lot can be adapted—as long as you know what you need for production to flow as it should.”
